Too many filmmakers have made their movie only to discover what they have made can not get distributed or worse than that is the fact they never finished their film or documentary at all. Many have asked how i have continued to make over 30 films. Its simple! i treat it like a business! a brain surgeon once commented before he took one of my seminars that operating on a brain was easier than making a movie. After the seminar he of course changed his mind but i asked him if his education as a doctor was simply about the human brain or did he have to learn how the whole body functioned. He smiled and said that he must learn the whole body before exclusively dealing with the brain. Well if this is true for a doctor, the same is true for the filmmaker. To be a real filmmaker in this new world to come you must know the whole body of the the movie business. thats what i teach…The whole body. Not just the brain. Did you know that audiences do not buy movies..they buy genres…concepts….just walk into a video store and look around. Do you see movies listed by their title? By their star? No its listed under a genre….action..comedy…horror….. so first, as a successful flimmaker you must decide your genre…stay true to your audience….and they will stay true to you.
